Henry Holland, ceramist and homeware designer
Henry Holland
From fashion design to ceramics - what drew Henry Holland to clay? Read on…
Who are you?
I’m Henry Holland a ceramist and homeware designer based in East London.
Why do you also have a thing with ceramics?
I have this thing with ceramics because I found it at a time that I needed a form of creative therapy and healing and it provided just that. Ceramics is a practise that I can immerse myself into and not even think about the outside world for hours at a time. It helped to reconnect me to my creativity and provided a much needed sense of self calm and has taught me patience!

When did ceramics come into your life?
Ceramics came in to my life during lockdown. I had just left my fashion business House of Holland that I founded in 2007 and was in a place in my life where I need to rediscover my love of creating and a creative output. I realised after not making clothes for just a short time that I loved making pieces for people to adopt into their lives and creating moments of joy for people. People choosing to bring my work into their lives has always provided me with such a sense of pride and as with fashion - people adopting my work into their homes and using my pieces as part of their everyday rituals is a real honour.
Where can we find you on a typical day?
In my studio in Hackney, East London. We still make everything in Hackney and it’s a key part of our company that we remain close to the making process of each of our pieces.

What are your plans for the future?
I would love to keep making and selling ceramics until I’m an old old man! There is so much to learn and so many different ways to experiment that I don’t think you could ever get to a place that there isn’t something else to try.
